Andalusite was first discovered
in Andalusia, a province of Spain. It is mined
in Brazil and Sri Lanka.
Andalusite has a pleasing mix of colors in different
directions, being pleochroic. With other pleochroic
gemstones, cutters will usually try to enhance
one dominant color; however this is not the case
with Andalusite. Generally the colors range from
a yellowish green or gold to an orange-brown.
Andalusite is especially good for those who like
earthy tones, and is often used in men’s
jewelry. It is a durable and inexpensive stone,
and a good value.
